Kim's Fairytale Divorce...

Pretty much the funniest thing I have seen on SNL in a while.

Spiced up oatmeal

I LOVE oatmeal. Not only does it amazingly bind to cholesterol (overall, lowering it), it tastes amazing too! this week, I had a pleasant surprise when I added pomegranate, raspberry, blackberry, and flaxseeds to it. Dee-light-ful! {image taken on my iPhone}

Puppy love.

This is Moo.
She is one of two Shih-tzu puppies from my girl Mazie.
She is just like her mama.
Sassy
loves to play
loves to snuggle up close to your ears
cutie-pie

I;m so glad Clark's mom is taking them BOTH! I love these little nuggets and now they aren't going too far!

A "Healthy" Venting....

{image via Cannelle et Vanille}
My professors constantly warn us about being bombarded with random questions/comments from people once they learn that we are majoring in nutrition/dietetics OR people telling YOU what is "the healthiest food" and the "best diet" OR people telling YOU what is deemed "healthy" and "unhealthy".
I never thought I would be annoyed by it but my professors are right, people ask Bazillions of questions once they learn I am majoring in nutrition. I don't mind sensible questions/comments....but some of them, seriously?

Recent favorites include:

"I am going to stop eating lunch because I have gained weight over the passed few months."-wow, great idea, you go starve that metabolism.

"This is a pretty healthy meal (or food)!" -when referring to something that is completely processed, has mystery meat, loaded with salt, fried, breaded, has absolutely ZERO fiber, fatty, hydrogenated, sugar-over-loaded, or all of the above.

"So what's the ONE thing you have learned that is the MOST valuable?"-this is your body people! the whole situation is valuable!

"What is the ONE supplement you recommend I take?"-set an appointment with me.

"What food can I eat to lose my love-handles?"-Hahaha.

I usually just smile and give a quick response, meaning no offense.

No, I don't know everything, in fact majoring in this science has made me realize... "the more you know, the more you know you DON'T know" as one of my professors has stated once.
....BUT I didn't go to school for 4 years and study a million health studies from different universities and take various science/nutrition classes to have someone tell ME the business, Thank you MEDIA for all of your conflicting info- guess that keeps us veggie-lovers employed :)

I LOVE a good anthro sale. Every year it lands in my birthday month wich is awesome cause I just scored this little number!

Ombre hair

I have my hair Semi-ombred right now and I LOVE it! This time I think I am going to have my roots my natural dark color and fade to blonde at the tips, kinda funky but hey, thats what happens when your hairstylist is family!

Mazie is a Mama!

{mazie posing with her new bowl and bow from aunt liz}

I am so thrilled (and scared) to welcome Mazie's first litter of full-bred shih-tzus! (due JUNE 11th) She has been such a trooper, I just know she will be a good little furry mommy! After talking with my hubs about breeding mazie, we decided that this will be her ONLY litter. We have a handful of friends and family that have their sights on one of her puppies and we feel way more comfortable keeping the puppies within people we know, then we can see them! {i just know I will get attached to the little guys!}
I have been studying suggestions for responsible breeding on the AKC website and researching online... A lot on what to expect....

Anything I should know before she has her bebes?

"You can't do the same thing and expect different results"

With the semester almost over, I can almost taste the sweet savor of freedom! I have a job that requires me to work in the evenings (no, not that kind of job), which will leave me with lots of time on my hands during the day (hence, the no school!). So I was thinking of the things I would personally like to accomplish this summer with my extra time....

  1. Practice my guitar- poor things getting dusty!
  2. Practice my worsening camera skills-if you don't use it, you lose it!
  3. Have a resting Heart Rate below 75bpm- I need cardio...BADLY!
  4. Learn to sew and make something.
  5. Reupholster the $2.00 wingback chair Clark & I got at a yard sale.
  6. Reorganize our closet.
  7. Volunteer.
  8. Visit my {widowed} grandmother more.
  9. Get a summer pass to the amazing pool that got built across from our house-this leads to the next goal...
  10. Get tan- I think I am the whitest I have been in years!
  11. Plant a (arizona-heat-proof) summer garden.
  12. Paint the master bathroom.
  13. Deliver Mazies puppies-kinda gross, but I gotta help a sista out yo!
  14. Fly somewhere fun with the hubby-gotta love family flight benefits.
  15. Learn to use a pressure cooker and can, can can you do the can-can!?
  16. Find a job with similar hours/pay that is close to home- fat chance of that happening, one can dream.
  17. Finish all the little "peace-of-cake" projects I haven't gotten to around the house.
  18. Cook at least one meal/ day.
  19. Learn the art of couponing!
  20. Serve someone once a week.

To have long hair again...

With the dreadfully hot Arizona heat just around the corner, I am so very tempted at the thought of cutting my hair off. That was until I saw this... Thanks for the inspiration LC!

I.Love.My major...and my Mother.

In "normal people time", I should have graduated in 2008 and well on my way to a masters degree. After years of non-stop school, swimming in classes I wasn't sure I needed, and being just simply....indecisive, I finally knuckled down a bachelors degree major in 2008. I found my passion because of a lovely woman's words that have been the driving force of my student career.

Those words were from my mother.

"Find out what you LOVE, and find a way to make money doing it"

After hearing her say it to me and hundreds of her admiring students, something clicked one day.
What was I passionate about? health, I knew that. Nursing? meh, too depressing for me. Physical therapy? I'm not sure I want to get a doctorate I'm not sure I will use (like when I'm a mama). Nutrition? ah ha! now we are getting somewhere.
After looking at the courses required I hesitated again....it is mainly science based, lots of chemistry and chemistry is my weakness.
After talking with that same lovely woman on what I should do she asked "Well what is stopping you from majoring in nutrition? I can hear in your voice the excitement you get from it?" and I replied "Chemistry. Lots of chemistry, and that is my weakness" and she retorted simply, "well that is just a small hump to get over to get to the thing you want". and of course, she is right! How long are classes? a semester is only a few months. A few months of torture, I can do this.....
So here I am, one more semester and I graduate with a bachelors degree in Nutrition (Dietetics) from an ADA accredited University (ASU). I found my passion...I love the fact that what you eat can effect your entire well being and can determine what diseases you will and won't get. It's just amazing to me how much control we have over the way we age inside and out by what we place in our mouth- we can even turn off what we are genetically predisposed to! AMAZING! (are you sensing the passion?)

So here is to you sweet mother! Thank you for your guidance, your wisdom, your strength, your example, and especially your love.

I love you.

Because of you I have found what I love, now I just need to find a way to make money doing it!
